Year-End Message from Schreiber Philanthropy
Dear Friends and Partners,
When I wrote to you in June, we were already experiencing the devastating ramifications of decisions being made at the federal level. That damage has continued to evolve with our neighbors being ruthlessly and inhumanely targeted, access to food being threatened, safe spaces being terrorized, and healthcare being even more inequitably resourced.
Now more than ever, we remain deeply committed to our partners on the front lines protecting communities through organizing, litigation, advocacy, and expanded services. The level of collaboration we’ve witnessed – and participated in – over the past year to preserve access to due process, ensure availability of critical services, and uphold human rights has been inspiring. It is a privilege to work alongside public and private partners who are clear-eyed about how best to meet this moment and remain united in our support of partners and each other.
In the spirit of reflection and hopeful celebration, I’d like to recognize an incredible milestone we’re celebrating at Schreiber Philanthropy. The Foundation that John and Kathy Schreiber created turns 20 this week, marking two decades of unwavering dedication to and investment in advancing economic mobility and well-being across the Chicagoland region. Remarkably, Schreiber Philanthropy’s total giving to date just surpassed the $480M mark.
This work could not have been possible without the early leadership of Heather Sannes, and now the team and board who are putting our mission into action. We’ve assembled a video to help capture the impact of the past 20 years and frame our goals for the future. We hope you can take a moment to watch and appreciate John and Kathy’s vision and impact.
With deep gratitude,
Whitney Smith | CEO
